Tricking the Habit of Mental Attachment

In this Video/Recording I address the painful issue of attachment, i.e., wanting, desire, emotional pain, frustration, and general painful thoughts of wishing things to be otherwise in our life. I offer an alternative way of considering the word “attachment,” that can soothe the ego in its endless habitual pursuit, and speak to the truth of […]

Anatomy of a Life: A Daily Mindful Reality Check

What do I mean by anatomy? According to one definition by Merriam-Webster, it is the structural makeup especially of an organism or any of its parts. I am going to extend the word anatomy to describe the structure of my body with its environment, i.e., myself with all its physical parts in a room (comprised […]

Weight Here: A Writer’s Ritual

Honey. Almond flour pancakes. Opening the computer to do some book editing. Knitting a baby blanket for my soon to arrive grandchild. Enjoying the quiet of the day that still feels connected to the holiday mood. Neighbors returning to their apartments around me, hearing the louder than desired footsteps above me. I love rituals, well […]

My Pink Beach Chair

I have been diligently working at finishing my third book, which has been years in the making, while I recently began a fourth! This is exciting as I appreciate the continued writing in this body of work I adore so much. However, it may be why my blogging has dropped away and I miss it. […]

Don’t Be Fooled by Your Imaginings

You really are somewhere very specific, but perhaps believe you shouldn’t be. That is so odd to consider. Why would someone doubt reality? The attachment to the surface we’re on, right now (chair, couch, bed, floor, ground), is just as absolute as the attachment of our ribs to our spine. The surface is undeniably that […]

Action Versus Doing: The Sentence Game

What is action? I view action as a sentence we can make to describe our body in the space right now. For example, I am sitting in a chair typing on the computer. That is my current action. Though we call it the present tense, this action can only be acknowledged after the fact of […]

The Body in Real Time

I watch to see what this body does, without knowing what it will do. I marvel at the magic of movement. I fascinate at how there is always something it does. Something gets done in real time. That is what I did. That is what I do, nothing more, nothing less. It is OK […]

On the World Map

I receive joy in knowing we get everything that will ever be for us for free. Nothing can be left out. This is because our body is never not existing in the space. If it is in a state of constant existence, it is in a state of constant somewhereness. Somewhere means engaged in some type […]

Stare at Now

Stare at now and see that it is the same thing as next. How can we differentiate them? Even if we dot this immediate second and call it “now,” we know that that itself is made up of milliseconds or even the microunits running on a stopwatch, none to be identified as singular. Stare at […]

People Watching

People watching anywhere is composed of watching bodies move. This is how we know what they’re doing. Do we ever watch our own body move? It’s simple to do. Though of course we can’t see all our body parts, we know they are together as a whole. We rarely, if ever, think to observe our […]
